Our Planet is Hurting and it can Only be Saved by Consumerism

No, I’m not retarded and yes, I was sarcastic while writing the title but, believe it or not, this is actually what our beloved leaders are saying to us on a weekly basis ( although a bit more subtle, but still the same cr@p ).

Let’s clarify some things from the start: It is better to use less energy and be more aware of your carbon footprint but what is happening right now around us has got nothing to do with that.

Energy bills of today cost more than ever but that isn’t happening because we don’t have enough smart plugs as we’re consuming the same amount of energy we consumed last year, or even less. This is happening because of the political blunders our elected leaders have done during the past three or four years.

We’re being told to save up on energy but also to buy electric vehicles. Now, if you don’t have enough electricity to power a TV how on earth will you power up an electric car?

Contradicting statements mean only one thing: we’re being lied again.

The general discourse is this: our planet is hurting ( oh so much ) and we have to buy green products ( products that are recyclable or don’t impact the environment when manufactured or used ) and to live more sustainable to save it.

Now, this would have been a good idea if it weren’t suddenly forced down our throats. This is happening because of the thing that created this mess in the first place ( cough.. cough.. consumerism ) so to resort to aggressive consumerism to save our planet feels extremely daft, to say the least.

To be clear here, I don’t accuse people that buy green products [1] but this should be a journey and not a sudden knee-jerk decision to replace everything in your life. Hmmm…is my girlfriend environmentally friendly?

Your light bulb dies on you, buy a more efficient one, your car is a wreck, make some research and, depending on your needs, buy an efficient petrol one ( not a truck dumbass ) or an electric car.

This is what we need and what our environment needs. Embarking in another consumerist frenzy like the ones in the 90s ( when everyone just NEEDED a PC which needed a printer and internet to actually do something ) or the 00s ( Heelys, iPods and the Poo-chi dog were life-saving inventions that we needed so, so much.. ) or the 10s ( when we couldn’t live without smartphones and a hoverboard ) will just lead to more pollution and more debt.

Haven’t you people learned anything at all from the last fifty years? Apparently not.

Our politicians are pushing us towards consumerism because they’re all sold, we know that much by now, but we also know that consumerism has brought us and our planet into the disastrous situation we’re currently facing.

The transition from a polluting society to a less polluting one should be made in a sensible fashion. I should know, when Romania made the transition from communism to democracy, back in the 90s, everything was rushed and improvised so, now, we’re still living in a strange mix of communism with some democratic features, a lot of organized crime and some political correctness sprinkled on top.

To avoid a similar scenario unfold in the endeavor to make our lives more sustainable and environmentally-friendly we need to do things the right way and deal with the issues our grandparents left to our parents which, in turn, passed them down to us: corruption and capitalism.

Let’s face it: not all people will be driving in electric cars by 2030–2035 [2] unless something is done about our economy, and to fix that you have to eliminate corruption and to regulate or replace capitalism.

Our current society is made out of parts from dystopian futures portrayed in the sci-fi novels and movies from the past: the murderous greed, the abuse and manipulation of people, the Matrix (minus the robots, of course) it’s all here.

Ursula von der Leyen can talk all day long but that won’t take away the fact she nearly brought German military into bankruptcy [3] and she’s repeating the same feat at the helm of the European Union.

We have to get rid of these incompetent crooks that pose for politicians and start demanding our rights again.

I know this sounds boring but people should get more involved into politics because democracy isn’t a perpetuum mobile, it needs the people ( demos ) to organize themselves, to keep asking questions and to demand their rights from the political sector.

Voting every four or five years between Trump or Biden and Macron or Le Pen isn’t enough, by a long margin.

Our society ( by our society I mean all so-called democratic societies of today ) is corrupt and unsustainable from the failing economy to science, mass-media and, of course, the political sector.

The mass-media is so dirty, corrupt and hypocritical these days that they are actually saying the general public is at fault for consumerism.

Ask yourself these questions: Have I ever wanted a movie to stop just to see a bunch of boring commercials? Have I ever entered a shop and asked for a TV or appliance that breaks after a few months? Have I ever asked for a car that only lasts five years then rusts into oblivion or burns trough sensors like they’re cigarettes? The answers to these questions are no, no and “HELL NO!” which means we’re not to blame for all the environmental $#it we’re dealing with today.

Consumerism is bad for the planet. There’s no debate about that but we’ve now entered an age where consumerism is being forced on people, from the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to electric cars.

Make no mistake about it, this is fueled by corruption and not by concern for the people or the planet. The so-called elite are mad, and they will always find new ways to make money even if it means killing people for profit but they shouldn’t be allowed to do so.

This brings us back to corruption. Our presidents, prime-ministers, the European Commission president should be working for the people and not against them. They work for the so-called elite because they’re paid to do so and the same goes for mass-media.

Modern politics are an abomination. Politicians don’t really care about the people, their countries or even about politics, they only care about being elected. To get elected they need to organize a theatrical electoral campaign and for that they need money, lots of money.

Those money come from large companies and rich people which in return get political influence ( in 2016 the NRA spent nearly $20 million on efforts opposing Hillary Clinton and nearly $10 million on efforts supporting Donald Trump. [4] ).

After being elected, politicians focus on keeping the “investors” happy and on the next campaign. Simple, but not really useful in any way or form.

This, in turn, brings us to capitalism. The myth of the elite dripping money on the lower social categories is busted. It’s failing to accomplish exactly that for over 200 years, so we can safely assume it will never do what it promises.

The free market myth is also never going to help our society as some companies are “freer” than others ( this is related with the political influence I was talking about earlier ), which means they have an unfair advantage over the opposition which results in a monopolistic market and abuse to clients and employees.

Companies that hold monopoly over a market aren’t forced to innovate or follow good economical practices because there’s nobody to take them out of business or to regulate them ( the ye’ olde argument: “close us and a bazillion of peeps will lose their jobs” ), which is exactly what is happening in most industries of today.

Capitalism in itself functions like a pyramidal scheme. Think about what you’ve been told for the past fifty years: you need to work hard and be smart. Nonsense, the richest people of this planet are the laziest and daftest people around and have been like that their entire lives.

To realize that capitalism is a pyramid scheme you need to look at the facts and not at the nonsense the mass-media spits at us.

A pyramid scheme is a type of fraudulent money making business model based on deception and an uneven rewarding system. Sounds familiar?

Basically, the schemer says he’s found a way to make money while s#itt!ng. But to take a large dump of money he needs to eat some money. Your money. No a lot, just enough. He will double or even triple your investment by the end of the week when he takes the magic money dump. A lot of people pay him $100 and, at the end of the week, he gives SOME people the double of their investment. The people that got their money spread the news around the world ( we’ve got internet nowadays to spread lies faster ) and the ones that get zilch try again or leave the scheme. When enough people find out the money s#!tter is actually a scammer the pyramid scheme dies.

For a pyramid scheme to last the longest while still sucking clients dry, it was established ( probably by British scientists [5] ) that 30% of clients should be paid while the rest of 70% get a big bowl of nothing.

What staggered me was the reaction of a majority of the people I warned about pyramid schemes. A lot of them refused to acknowledge the so-called opportunities to make money were actually scams. The argument “bUt SoME pEoPLe sTiLl MAkE MOneY” slapped me in the face time, after time, after time.

Nobody wants to acknowledge they’re part of the majority, when the majority is losing money. Maybe that’s why capitalism is still going strong after more than two centuries of failure.

The odds of capitalism are even worse compared to other pyramid schemes. Capitalism boasts that if you “wOrK HArd aNd aRE sMaRT” you get to rub shoulders with the elite, which, depending on the country, can represent between 1% and 10% of the population.

So, technically, most people believe they won’t be amongst the 90% to 99% who have to slave all day long for a piece of bread. Such a greedy pyramid scheme will flop after a week or even a few days but capitalism is still going strong for over 200 years.

You people are not very bright, are you? Sad times are upon us indeed..

But there is a silver lining, after all. All you peeps need to do is to take your big, fat, stinky arses of the couch and ask your politicians to do what’s right for you. If they won’t, ask louder. If they still won’t, get a few torches and pitchforks ( I hope I’m not being too subtle for you ).

These days, people talk about “oUr ChILdReN” all day long but, as things stand right now, our children are screwed because they’ll face environmental issues, massive debt and the aftermath of the numerous economical and financial crashes we’ll provoke in the coming decades if we won’t wise up quickly.

The signs are there for all to see and we know what we have to do. There has never been a point in our history were free people have been so overworked and so underpaid. This needs to stop NOW.

If you feel everything around you is dark and stinky, then get your head out of your arse! Cheerio.
